Which of these graphics cards is better?

ATI chips are more advanced than the nVidia ones, but nvidia isnt bad either. ATI has more Stream Processors for Shaders and Rendering, but nVidia has its own Shaders Core. 555M is a newer chip than a 5870. They both are pretty good though.
