Afro Hair Question! Need Help!! D:!?

So i have an afro which is about 7 or 8 inches. When i wash it, it goes like 2 inches flat and matted down look. how do i fix this? I have to plat it up, to make it right. Also what are the kinds of greases etc that are good for it? ... i really want mines like Jimmy Hendrix.
