Will jogging help my conditioning in a sport like basketball?

My basketball season has ended and I've been off for one week. During the season I was in great shape. I just finished AAU tryouts and i realized that now i am in terrible condition. I was wondering if jogging about 3 miles a day will help with my conditioning in a sport where there is alot of sprints in a drawn out game.
